The CEO of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg has recently announced on Thursday that WhatsApp will start rolling out the end-to-end encrypted chat backups for iOS and Android users globally.
This end-to-end encryption has put a lot of importance on security, and that’s why it is one of the USPs of the app. It’s was being stated that five years ago WhatsApp has added end-to-end encryption by default, and today it guards over 100 billion messages daily.
This is a very good process of safety, as such the end-to-end encrypted messages that were being sent and receive are saved on users’ devices. There are many people who want to keep a backup of their chats in case lose their phone.
However, from now onwards, WhatsApp is going a bit ahead and providing an optional layer of security to guard all the backups that are stored on Google Drive or iCloud with the help of end-to-end encryption.
This is a very unique as well as a safe procedure, and there is no other global messaging service at this scale that contributes this level of security for their users:-

So, with this grade of security feature users can now defend their end-to-end encrypted backup with a password or as per their preference, they can also use a 64-bit encryption key that only they would know.
While the most important and interesting point of this protection is that neither WhatsApp nor its backup service provider can read their backup messages, in short, only the user can access the key and unlock it.
How to turn on end-to-end encrypted chat backups?
Here are the steps mentioned below to activate the end-to-end encrypted chat backups:-
- Open Settings.
- Tap Chats > Chat Backup > End-to-end Encrypted Backup.
- Tap Continue, then follow the prompts to create a password or key.
- Tap Done, and wait for WhatsApp to prepare your end-to-end encrypted backup.
- You might need to connect to a power source as well.
With the help of end-to-end protection, all the chats and conversations will remain private, and end-to-end encryption implies only the proposed sender and receiver can see the messages that are being transferred.
