Google Acquiring Mandiant

The Silicon valley giant has announced its acquisition of mandiant. Mandiant is an american cybersecurity firm that went into prominence in 2013. The company made the headlines when they pointed out China for cyber espionage attacks. 

Later on the company was acquired by FireEye for $1 billion in 2013. Google has made agreements with Mandiant that it will acquire it’s stock for $23.00 per share. The company made a valuation of nearly $5.4 billion that includes hard cash owned by the company.

Google claimed that this will help build and strengthen the security of Google Cloud platform. Cloud infrastructure has changed the entire perspective of cybersecurity. Google has acquired several products to enhance their cloud infrastructure and security such Zero Trust with BeyonCorp Enterprise, Virustotal for malicious content and softwares and many others. 

Google aims at providing end-to-end security for their cloud infrastructure. Mandiant has been gaining intelligence from other frontline cybersecurity firms. Hence, the combination of these provides Google with additional services and in-demand features.

The CEO said that, “Organisations around the world are facing unprecedented cybersecurity challenges as the sophistication and severity of attacks that were previously used to target major governments are now being used to target companies in every industry. We look forward to welcoming Mandiant to Google Cloud to further enhance our security operations suite and advisory services, and help customers address their most important security challenges”

The Mandiant CEO also said , “There has never been a more critical time in cybersecurity. Since our founding in 2004, Mandiant’s mission has been to combat cyber attacks and protect our customers from the latest threats. To that end, we are thrilled to be joining forces with Google Cloud. Together, we will deliver expertise and intelligence at scale, changing the security industry.”
