Chrome 80

Google released Chrome 80 for Windows Mac & Linux with various improvements and patches for 56 security vulnerabilities that affected chrome.

Chrome 80.0.3987.8 roll out over the coming days/weeks and you can update your browser by accessing Settings -> Help -> About Google Chrome, the browser will automatically check the update.

Android and iOS users can update the Chrome browser app from their respective App stores.

Chrome 80 for Android has been released with several improvements of the following:

  • Quieter notifications: You can see fewer notification requests with a new permission option.
  • SameSite cookies: By default, cookies are treated as same-site only. 
  • Secure media: Insecure audio and video on secure pages are automatically upgraded to secure connections.

“The enablement of the SameSite-by-default and SameSite=None-requires-Secure enforcement will not be included in this initial Chrome 80 stable rollout. 56 Security Vulnerabilities Fixed

Chrome 80 also fixed 56 security bugs in the various category including 11 vulnerabilities patched under “High” severity, 34 vulnerabilities fixed under “medium” severity and 10 vulnerabilities are patched under “Low” severity.
